Karkardooma is the district court for East and North East Delhi, and my chamber here is on the first floor of Block-E, in the Arjun Gali, Vishwas Nagar part of the complex. Having a chamber inside the complex rather than a room somewhere outside it matters on a hearing day: papers can be signed, an affidavit attested and a copy filed between two listings, instead of the matter being carried over to the next date.
Who you meet here
Me, and on a hearing day usually between listings. This is a working chamber at a busy district complex, not a reception. If you are coming for a first conference rather than a hearing, say so when you call and the time will be fixed outside court hours so that the file gets a proper reading.
What is heard at Karkardooma
- Criminal matters for East and North East Delhi — bail and anticipatory bail applications, remand, charge, trial and arguments, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 for offences on or after 1 July 2024, and under the old Code for matters that began before it.
- Civil suits and property disputes — title, possession, partition, injunctions and specific performance arising in the dense residential and commercial colonies of East Delhi.
- Motor accident claims — the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal sitting inside the complex.
- Matrimonial and family matters — petitions, maintenance and custody, before the Family Court benches here.
- Cheque bounce complaints under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, filed where the payee’s collecting bank branch is situated.

How to reach it
The court complex is in Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara, and the Karkardooma Court station on the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro is beside it. The chamber is on the first floor of Block-E; carry a photo identity document for the gate.
